For many couples in New Jersey, infidelity is a deal-breaker issue that often leads to divorce. As a result, even the suspicion of cheating can cause the break down of a marriage, which is why it’s imperative to get to the bottom of the issue as soon as possible. Psychology Today explains some of the common signs of infidelity so you can gain clarity on your marital situation.

Secrecy

While a desire for privacy isn’t necessarily a sign of cheating, it can be cause for alarm if it seemingly appears out of nowhere. A person having an affair has something to hide, so it’s natural that mobile devices and laptops would suddenly be password protected. Browsing history may also be cleared on regular basis and text messages and emails may be deleted without explanation. A person will also be quite guarded with their devices, choosing to take them everywhere to prevent their spouse from discovering the infidelity.

Hostility

An unfaithful spouse often becomes hostile to their partner as a means to pass blame. Hostility can take the form of harsh criticisms or insults, which may center on behaviors that were never a problem before. This is an attempt to rationalize the cheating behavior and to make the cheater feel less guilty about his or her infidelity. This can be quite disheartening for the spouse, especially when hostility seemingly comes from out of nowhere.

Deflection

At some point, you may question your spouse about your suspicions. It’s rare for a person to admit their actions, and instead they’ll deflect your questions and try to avoid the topic all together. Your spouse might also attempt to blame you for a lack of trust and claim that any issues in your marriage stem from that reason. While it’s not always the case, a gut feeling about cheating is often right.
